Closest Rafting to Alanya: Koprulu Canyon or Dim River?

If you are staying in Alanya and searching for the closest rafting, you actually have two very different options - and they are not the same experience at all. Let us be honest about both so you can choose the right one.

Two rivers, two completely different days

The first is Dim Cayi (the Dim river), just east of Alanya. The second is Koprulu Canyon on the Koprucay river near Beskonak, further west. One is a short hop; the other is a proper adventure. Which is right for you depends on what you actually want from the day.

Dim Cayi - close and gentle

Dim Cayi sits only a short drive from central Alanya, tucked into a green valley with riverside restaurants. What people call "rafting" here is really a calm, shallow float - lovely for photos, families with young children, and anyone who wants cool water and scenery without adrenaline. It is genuinely close and genuinely relaxing. What it is not is real whitewater. There are no proper rapids, so if you have come for the thrill of bouncing through churning water, Dim Cayi will feel a little tame.

Koprulu Canyon - the real grade II-III run

Koprulu Canyon is the genuine article: a classic 14 km descent of the Koprucay through the canyon, with grade II-III rapids, cold clear snowmelt, a trained guide in every raft, and all the gear provided. This is proper white-water rafting, the run our whole team specialises in. The catch is honest: it is a longer drive from Alanya.

The honest truth about distance

Koprulu Canyon is around 1.5 to 2 hours by road from the Alanya area. If you are at the far end - Mahmutlar or Kargicak - budget nearer two hours; from Okurcalar or Avsallar it is a bit shorter, roughly 1.25 to 1.5 hours. We are not going to pretend Alanya is close to the river, because it is not. This makes for an earlier start and a full day out.

The good news: free hotel pickup by minibus is still offered from these resorts, so you do not have to arrange your own transport or drive. You will simply be collected in the morning - a little earlier than guests staying nearer the canyon - raft through the day, and be dropped back late afternoon or early evening. The logistics are handled; it is just a longer, fuller day than for someone based in Side or Manavgat.

So which should you book?

Season runs roughly April to October, when the snowmelt keeps the Koprucay cold and lively. The water is bracing even in summer, which is part of the fun. Every raft has a guide, and no previous experience is needed - just a willingness to get wet and paddle.

Booking tips for Alanya guests

Because it is a longer day, book a date when you are not rushing off somewhere else the same afternoon. Booking direct beats going through a hotel rep or an OTA - you deal with the operator running the boats, and it usually works out better.
