Koprulu Canyon Rafting Season: Opening and Closing Dates

If you are booking a summer holiday near Side and hoping to raft the Koprucay river, the first question is simple: when is the season actually open? Here is an honest, practical guide.

When does the Antalya rafting season open and close?

As a rough guide, the Koprulu Canyon rafting season runs from April to the end of October. Trips through the Koprulu Canyon National Park near Beskonak begin in spring as the weather warms and the river settles, and they wind down in mid to late autumn. Through the winter the tours simply do not run, because the Koprucay is too high, too fast and far too cold for a safe, enjoyable family day out.

These are approximate dates rather than fixed calendar entries. The exact opening and closing days shift a little each year with the weather, so the safest plan is to check the current live availability on the rafting from Side page before you lock in your holiday.

What drives the season dates?

The rhythm of the season is set by the mountains that feed the river. A few factors matter most:

Spring, summer or autumn: which is best for you?

Every part of the season has its own character, and the rapids stay in the beginner and family friendly grade II to III range throughout.

Spring (April to May)

The snowmelt is at its strongest, so the water is higher and the run feels the most spirited. This is a great window for anyone wanting a bit more splash, and the canyon is beautifully green.

High summer (June to August)

The flow eases into a gentler, sunnier experience, ideal for first-timers and families with children. The cold water is wonderfully refreshing against the coastal heat, and this is the busiest holiday period, so booking ahead is wise.

Autumn (September to October)

Quieter, with pleasant temperatures and lovely light in the canyon. A lovely time to visit if you prefer fewer crowds towards the tail end of the season.

Planning your holiday around the season

The rafting base sits at Beskonak, around 50 km and roughly one hour inland from the Side and Manavgat coast. Free hotel pickup by minibus is included, so you do not need a hire car. Expect a morning pickup and to be back at your hotel in the late afternoon or early evening, which means you can slot the trip neatly into a week's holiday without losing a beach day either side.

A trained guide rides in every raft, and a helmet and life jacket are compulsory and provided. The life jacket keeps you afloat, so you do not need to be a strong swimmer for the family route, which is usually available from around age 6 to 7. If you are travelling with younger children or anyone with a health condition, confirm the details with the operator, and speak to your doctor where relevant, before you book.

Because dates shift slightly each year and summer weekends fill quickly, it pays to plan early. Browse the full range of trips on our tours page, then check live dates and pricing for departures from the coast.
