The rivers of Köprülü Canyon don't feel the same in April as they do in August. Cold spring meltwater roars through the gorge in early season, while high summer brings warm, sunny, splash-friendly days. So when is the best time for rafting in Antalya? The honest answer: it depends on whether you want maximum adrenaline or a relaxed family day. This month-by-month guide walks you through the whole season so you can pick the perfect day.
The Antalya Rafting Season at a Glance
The season runs roughly from April to October. Two things change across those months: how much water is in the river, and how warm the air and water feel. Spring means high, powerful flows and cooler water; midsummer means gentler, warmer, sun-soaked runs; autumn brings quieter canyons and pleasant temperatures.
Every tour we run — whatever the month — includes free round-trip hotel transfer, a licensed guide, helmet and buoyancy vest, a safety briefing and insurance, and you pay on the tour day. Reserving online is free, so you can lock in a date and decide later.
Month-by-Month Breakdown
April – Early Season, Big Water
Snowmelt from the Taurus Mountains feeds the river, so April usually brings the highest, fastest water of the year. The canyon is green and uncrowded, but the water is cold. This is a great month for confident rafters who want more punch — pack a light layer for after the run.
May – The Sweet Spot Begins
Water is still strong but air temperatures climb into comfortable territory. Fewer crowds than peak summer and a lush green canyon make May one of the most rewarding months for a classic Köprülü Canyon run from Side.
June – Warming Up, Getting Busier
Water levels ease slightly and days turn hot. June is an excellent all-rounder: warm enough to enjoy getting splashed, with the river still lively. Book a little ahead as the season picks up.
July & August – Peak Summer, Family Favourite
The warmest water and hottest days of the year. Flows are gentler and the sunshine makes cooling off in the river a joy — ideal for a family rafting day from Antalya. It's also the busiest stretch, so mornings are calmer and reserving in advance is wise.
September – Quiet, Warm, Underrated
Arguably the best month overall: the water and air are still warm from summer, but the school-holiday crowds thin out. Fewer people, comfortable temperatures and beautiful light in the gorge.
October – Golden End of Season
Cooler, calmer and peaceful. Water levels drop toward the end of the season and the canyon is at its quietest. A lovely time for a gentle, scenic run before the rivers rest for winter.
Best Months for Families vs Thrill-Seekers
Your ideal month depends on your goal. Here's the quick version:
- Families & first-timers: July, August and September. Warm water, gentler flows and lots of sunshine make the Köprülü Canyon (Class II–III) run relaxed and fun. Non-swimmers are welcome with a vest and guide, and kids usually join from around age five to six.
- Thrill-seekers: April, May and early June. High spring water gives the biggest, wildest ride — and if you want to go all in, the extreme Tazı Canyon (Class IV–V) is steeper and far more demanding.
- Best all-round value: late May, June and September balance good water, good weather and smaller crowds.
Prices sit between €20 and €49 depending on the river and whether you add a combo. Classic Köprülü runs start at €20, while multi-activity days that pair rafting with zipline, jeep, quad or buggy climb toward the top of that range.
What to Bring, Whatever the Month
- Swimwear and a change of clothes — you will get wet.
- A towel and secure water shoes or sandals.
- Sunscreen and sunglasses with a strap (essential July–September).
- A light layer for spring and autumn, when the water is colder.
- A waterproof pouch if you want to keep a phone close.
Lunch by the river is included on most tours, so you can refuel between the water and the drive home.
So, When Should You Go?
If you want the wildest ride, come in spring. If you want warm water and easy family fun, aim for midsummer. If you want the best balance of weather, water and space, September is hard to beat. Whatever you choose, reserving is free and you only pay on the day — so pick your month and lock it in. Browse all our white-water rafting tours and secure your spot on the river.
