If your hotel is in Side, you are in one of the easiest spots on the whole coast to reach the rapids: Koprulu Canyon sits around 50 km inland, roughly an hour up the valley from the Side-Manavgat corridor. This guide walks you through the day from the moment the minibus arrives to the moment you are dropped back at reception.
How free hotel pickup works from Side
Free hotel pickup by minibus is standard on almost every rafting trip, and Side is squarely inside the collection zone. Once you book, the operator notes your hotel name and arranges a morning pickup from your lobby or the nearest point the minibus can safely reach. Larger resorts on the main road are picked up right at the door; a handful of hotels down narrow lanes or in the pedestrianised old town may ask you to walk to a meeting point a short distance away.
The single most useful thing you can do is give an accurate hotel name and a working phone number when you book. The driver runs a route that gathers several hotels in turn, so your exact collection time depends on where you fall on that loop. We will not print a precise clock time here, because it genuinely varies — expect a morning pickup and plan a light, early breakfast. Wear your swimwear under your clothes and bring a towel, a change of dry clothes and secured footwear.
The drive up to Koprulu Canyon
The journey inland is part of the experience. The minibus leaves the flat coastal strip behind and climbs steadily through pine forest and orchard country towards Beskonak, following the Koprucay river upstream. The road narrows and twists as the canyon walls rise around you; on a clear morning it is a genuinely scenic drive, and many guests rate it as a highlight in its own right. Reckon on around an hour from Side, a little more if your hotel is early on the pickup loop and the minibus is still gathering passengers.
There is usually a short stop at the riverside base camp on arrival for a briefing, safety kit and, on many trips, breakfast or tea before you get on the water.
What the rafting day involves
Once at base camp, a trained guide fits you with a helmet and life jacket and runs through the paddle commands and safety drill. A guide rides in every raft, so you are never navigating the river alone. The classic run through the national park is around 14 km of grade II-III water — lively enough to be genuinely fun, gentle enough for beginners and families. There is a shorter family route of around 12 km that usually takes children from about age six or seven.
The water is cold snowmelt straight off the mountains, cold even in July and August, so the first splash is bracing — that is half the fun. Rapids run livelier in the spring snowmelt of April and May and settle into a gentler flow through high summer. After the run there is time to change and dry off, often over a riverside lunch, before the minibus brings you back down the valley. Plan to be back at your hotel by late afternoon or early evening.
Which tour suits Side guests
Because Side is close to the canyon, you have the full range of options without a punishing early start. Most guests staying in Side pick the classic 14 km run for the best mix of scenery and rapids; families with younger children lean towards the shorter route. If you want to make a full day of it, many operators offer combos that pair rafting with a jeep safari, a zipline or canyoning — worth considering while you are already up in the mountains. Honest pricing — what actually drives it
We will not quote a fixed euro figure here, because the real price depends on your choices: route length, whether you join a shared group or book a private raft, any combo add-ons, and whether you want the professional photos and video of your run. Transfer distance plays a part too, though from Side that works in your favour. One thing worth knowing: booking direct is usually cheaper than buying through a hotel rep, who adds their own commission. Always check the live, up-to-date price on the booking page before you commit.
