High summer is the busiest time on the Koprucay, and for good reason: the air is hot, the canyon is beautiful and the cold snowmelt river is a genuine relief from the Antalya heat.
If you are holidaying on the coast in July or August, a rafting day in Koprulu Canyon National Park is one of the easiest active excursions to add to your trip. Here is exactly what to expect from the summer season - and why it pays to plan ahead.
What summer rafting on the Koprucay is like
The Koprucay river runs through Koprulu Canyon near Beskonak, around 50 km and roughly one hour inland from the Side and Manavgat coast. By July and August the spring snowmelt has eased off, so the flow is at its gentlest of the year. The rapids stay in the beginner-friendly grade II-III range, which makes high summer an ideal window for families, first-timers and anyone who wants the scenery and splashes without white-knuckle drama.
The classic run is about 14 km, with a shorter family option of around 12 km. A trained guide rides in every raft, and a helmet and life jacket are compulsory and provided. The family route usually starts from about age 6-7, though you should confirm your children's ages and any health questions with the operator before booking.
Warm air, cold water - and why that is a good thing
Here is the summer surprise: even in the peak heat of July and August, the Koprucay is fed by cold mountain snowmelt, so the water stays genuinely cold all season. On a 35-degree day that is not a drawback - it is the best part. Every splash cools you down, and the shaded canyon walls keep the gorge noticeably fresher than the beach.
Wear your swimwear under quick-dry clothes, bring a towel and a change of clothes for the minibus ride back, and expect to get thoroughly wet. Water shoes or old trainers that can get soaked are ideal - flip-flops tend to float away.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
No. Your life jacket keeps you floating, and the family route is designed for people who are not confident swimmers. You will always have a guide in the raft with you. If anyone in your group has a medical condition or you are unsure about a young child, check with the operator first, and with your doctor where relevant.
July and August are the busiest months - book ahead
These two months are the high season across the whole Antalya coast, so rafting departures fill up quickly. Popular dates - especially weekends and the middle of your holiday week - can sell out. Booking a day or two in advance secures your minibus seat, your preferred date and free hotel pickup, rather than hoping for a last-minute space.
If you are staying around Side, our rafting from Side page shows the pickup arrangements for that resort and lets you reserve early. You can also browse the full range of day tours and excursions if you want to build a fuller week of activities.
How pickup and timing work
Rafting is a morning-departure activity. A minibus collects you from your hotel in the morning, drives inland to the canyon, and you are back at your hotel in the late afternoon or early evening. We do not quote exact clock times here because pickup depends on your resort and hotel location - your confirmation will give you the details for your specific booking.
Because it is a half-to-full day out, plan a relaxed evening afterwards rather than another big excursion the same day.
What summer rafting costs
The price of a summer rafting day depends on a few things: whether you choose the classic or shorter family route, group size, any extras such as photos or a combo with zipline or quad biking, and your pickup point. Rather than quote a figure that may be out of date, please check the live price on the booking page, which always shows the current rate.
Peak summer offers gentle water, glorious weather and a cold river that feels perfect in the heat - just remember it is also the busiest time, so reserve early to lock in your day.
